Uddhava-Sandeśa and Haṁsadūta are two devotional poems written by Śrī Rūpa Gosvāmī, in the beginning of the 16th century. They are concerned with the topic of love in separation, and are very important for practitioners of Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavism.
This edition comes with a very insightful introduction into the matter by the translator, Śrī Jagadānanda Dāsa (a.k.a. Jan Brzezinski, PhD).
When he heard Rūpa Gosvāmī's poetry, the great Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said:
madhura prasanna ihāra kābya sālaṁkāra
aiche kabitba binu nahe rasera pracāra
Rūpa's poetry is sweet, pleasing, and filled with literary ornaments. Without such poetry, the dissemination of [bhakti-] rasa is not possible. (CC Antya 1.198)
