Tandem songs are songs generally with the same title (initial one or two lines also referred to as a Mukhda) or even the full song from the same movie but sung by different singers.

Most Tandem songs are solo songs sung by two different singers. But there are also Tandem songs sung by different set of one or more singers. There are few cases where, one of the Tandem songs is sung by a solo singer and the other one by two or more singers, one singer may be common in both songs or it may be an entirely different set of singers for both Tandem songs.

This book lists 1,245 Tandem songs, with 2,559 total songs from 1139 films, starting from year 1935 and spanning over nine decades up to year 2024.

About the Author

Abhay Jain has always been a fan of vintage Hindi film music. Listening to songs was mostly from radio, specifically Vividh Bharti and on Radio Ceylon. Did not watch many movies till high school. Once got into college, watching movies, enjoying movie songs and remembering song statistics became a passion.

Music interest took another turn in 2003 when he got involved in live radio show of Hindi film songs on a local New Jersey FM station, called Geet Ganga. Radio shows were voluntary effort. Through an ardent listener, late Rupa Dore got me in touch with Raju Bharatan, Film editor of Illustrated Weekly, and radio host, Ameen Sayani of famous weekly song program, Binaca Geetmala. Raju Bharatan and Ameen Sayani got him in touch with many film personalities. For his radio show, he also interviewed many film personalities, music directors Ravi, Ravindra Jain, Anandji of Kalyanji Anandji, Usha Khanna, Pyarelal, actress Shyama, singers Shamshad Begum, Suman Kalyanpur, Hemlata, Raju Bharatan, Ameen Sayani, Rakesh Bakshi (son of lyricist Anand Bakshi). Ameen Sayani was gracious enough to write and record an introduction for Geet Ganga show which was played at the beginning of each show.

His passion is to listen, collect Hindi film songs, clean/restore them and try to keep accurate information.

He is a retired engineer with degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Computer Science.
