Women in India have long faced oppression, deeply rooted in Hindu scriptures and customs. These texts often equate women with property or animals. Even Brahmin women are regarded as equal to Shudras. Traditions like Karva Chauth demand only the wife to fast, and symbols like sindoor and mangalsutra mark her as "owned," while husbands wear no such signs.
Girls born under certain astrological conditions are labeled Manglik—sometimes married off to trees or animals due to superstition. After a husband’s death, women are expected to remain celibate or commit sati, while men can remarry freely. Only sons are allowed to perform funeral rites, excluding daughters from these final honors.
This male-centric culture idealizes male power and expects female submission, denying women equal status and rights in both religious and social spheres.
