It is a very poignant story which elucidates about the struggle of a helpless woman who succumbed to battling poverty in a metropolitan city of India.
She shifted to Bangalore from a village situated on the bank of river Cauvery after having been married to Mohan. Since childhood she was struggling with poverty but getting married couldn’t help her find destiny. Her husband abandoned her facing frequent squabble with her owing to family burden and his drinking habit. In utter desperation she had to take resort of doing house-hold works in other’s houses. But the burden of monthly room-rent couldn’t add oxygen to her daily life tempo. She was not able to save money with which she could take care of herself even while in pregnancy as well as put her children in a school.
Her dedication towards her land-lord lady earned reward but that didn’t last till her pregnancy was over. In her worst condition she got succour from a generous and kind childhood friend of her husband but that too couldn’t prevent her from taking resort in a public park with her four children and fifth one carrying in her womb. There she took help of a mad-woman in view of keeping fiendish eyes away.
Hopeful waiting for her estranged husband couldn’t turn into a fruitful waiting which led her to be a bread-winner of her family. The load of burning fire of her home-oven couldn’t restrict her from doing house-hold works in other’s houses even during her pregnancy. The incessant working in that stage for making a living made her weaker and weaker.
Disheartened Pushpvathi wanted to be stoic with every problem but it couldn’t happen. She wanted to take every problem with smile but she became ashamed of on her own smile. She had to take pain and step out for survival.
Despite being in last phage of pregnancy, the crisis of drinking water compelled feeble Pushpvathi to make a move out of her dwelling carrying a child in her lap which led to bleeding profusely. She collapsed on the way while moving from one corner of the park to another for collecting drinking water. But this collapsing in a bustling city like Bangalore couldn’t bother anyone to rush her hospital in time. That movement was her last movement which restricted her forever......
