Decision making appears to be a simple activity but the process leading to a decision is quite complex. The unique part of the decision making is that it is always done in advance but people weigh it in hindsight. Taking a decision is only half work done; the other half is acceptance of decision. In fact acceptance of a decision by the stakeholders is more important than making a decision, as unless it is accepted, it has no relevance.
People tend to accept the outcome rather than the decision. This tendency of judging a decision as good or bad based on the outcome leads the stakeholders to eventually accept or reject a decision but that is wrong. People not only accept or reject decision made by others but also by self. Actually when others make a decision, we can debate it, criticize it, pass on judgment but in almost all cases we forget it after sometime. However, when we make a decision, we consciously or unconsciously, keep deliberating and judging it for a long time. Acceptance or rejection of our own decisions impacts our behaviour and future actions more than when we accept of reject decisions made by others. Decision reviews impacts our outlook towards new situations and in a way reflects in our behaviour and approach towards every new situations.
Therefore, success of a decision making is not in it to be good or bad, right or wrong, but being accepted when it is taken. This book brings in awareness about various aspects of decision making so that stakeholders become better acceptors of a decision while it is being taken irrespective of the outcome which typically will be known in due course. It is almost impossible to cover all factors that influence a decision making process but the book picks out the key ones which does contribute or influence significantly during the process of decision making. Aim is to make the audience more aware about these factors so that acceptance of the decision taken becomes easier.
