জীবনের প্রথম ২৪টি বছর কাটিয়েছেন বিধান রায়ের শহর কল্যাণীতে, মহানগরীর যানজট আর ঔদাসীন্য থেকে প্রায় ৫০ কিলোমিটার দূরে। পরবর্তী ৬টি বছরে উত্তর আমেরিকার ৩টি শহর তার ঠিকানা হয়ে ওঠে। ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ ব্রিটিশ কলম্বিয়া-য় স্নাতোকোত্তর কম্পিউটার সায়েন্সের দৌলতে ভ্যাঙ্কুভার, মাইক্রোসফটের চাকুরিসূত্রে সিয়াটেল, অতঃপর কার্নেগী মেলনে পি এইচ ডি এর প্রশ্রয়ে পিটসবার্গ।

২০১০-এ সংক্ষিপ্ত সময়ের জন্যে আষিক কল্যাণীতে ফিরে আসেন এবং তার প্রায় সমাপ্ত উপন্যাসের প্রথম পাতাটি লেখা হয়। উপন্যাসের জার্নি তাকে বেনারস, কুমায়ূন হিমালয় কিম্বা মালয়েসিয়ান রেইনফরেস্টের অভিজ্ঞতায় ঋদ্ধ করে। বেনারসের ট্রিপটি বিশেষ ভাবেই তৃপ্তিদায়ক ও স্মরণযোগ্য, যাতায়াতের প্রায় হাজার মাইল মোটরবাইকেই কভার করেন আষিক। এই বই-এর অধিকাংশ কবিতা এই সময়েই লেখা হয়।

মিউজিক কম্পোজার হিসেবে আষিক বেশ কয়েকজন প্রতিভাবান শিল্পীর সঙ্গে কাজ করার সুযোগ পেয়েছেন । উল্লেখযোগ্য কয়েকটি নাম ইন্দ্রদীপ ঘোষ, সোমা ভট্টাচার্য্য ও মৌমিতা মিত্র। বলাই বাহুল্য, সঙ্গীত তার শিল্পীসত্ত্বার অন্যতম অধ্যায়। বলিউডে কাজ করার স্বপ্নটিও রয়েছে এই সবকিছুর সঙ্গেই। অল্পসময়ের জন্যে শিক্ষকতাও করেছেন যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কম্পিউটার সায়েন্স বিভাগে।

কবিতা-গান-শিক্ষকতা-ভ্রমণ-গবেষণা এর অন্তর্লীন পথটি প্রেমের, নাম আষিক না হলেও এই রোডম্যাপের খুব বেশি অদল-বদল হত না।

Ashique spent the first twenty-four years of his life in a charming, quiet town named Kalyani, thirty miles outside of the bustling city of Kolkata, India. The next six years have seen him live in three geographically distant and culturally distinct North American cities - Vancouver, Seattle and Pittsburgh. A scholarship to pursue his Masters in Computer Science at the University of British Columbia brought him to Vancouver. After finishing his masters, he moved to Seattle to work for Microsoft. Now back in academia, he is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the School of Computer Science in Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.

In 2010, Ashique took some time away from his work in Computer Science and went back to his hometown, Kalyani. The novel that had been quietly shaping up in his mind all these years needed his focused effort. Research for the novel took him on a 1000 mile motorbike road-trip to Benaras, and many hikes along the Himalayan trails and through the Malaysian rain forests fueled his inspiration. In this period of leisurely creativity, he penned a vast number of poems, some of which have been compiled into this book.

Writing is not Ashique's sole passion, however. The other great love of his life is composing music. He has collaborated with some noted classical musicians in the past, including Indradeep Ghosh, Soma Bhattacharya, and Moumita Mitra. Ashique’s interests also include teaching, and he greatly enjoyed his stint as a guest lecturer with the Department of Computer Science in Jadavpur University. His close friends often make fun of his perennial dilemma with career decisions as he vacillates from striving to be an accomplished writer and poet, a professor of Computer Science, or a Bollywood music composer. This book of poems is the product of another soul searching venture that he has been pursuing.
