This novel is a metamodernist tale of self exploration. Aakash is a well-qualified engineer having a good career at a large multinational company. He is alone and single. He gets disenchanted with his corporate job and resigns. He sets off on a journey to empty his mind and explore his true calling. He has a chance encounter with Aakriti who is a senior banker. Aakriti seems something in him and a love story begins. Aakash wanders and reaches a village in the Himalayas. He meets interesting characters there and gets involved in a few development projects.
The characters such as Saurabh, Nisha, Durgesh, Veena, Mr. Mehta, Aunty ji, and Uncle ji are relatable and genuine. Their struggles, values, aspirations, and celebrations paint the picture of our society in transformation. Each of these characters carries a unique story which is the story of our times.
Aakash, through interaction with these characters, gets confronted with contemporary issues such as ‘rising authoritarianism’, ‘relevance of religion in the age of technology’, ‘Indian civilization and culture’, ‘what constitutes good art?’, ‘is technology the panacea to solve all our problems?’, ‘why content is a virtue?’ etc.
As our characters grapple with these issues; would this give enough clarity to Aakash for discovering his true purpose? Would his quest be complete?.........
