Meera Mangeshkar, a well placed young beautiful Devadasi of Mangeeshi, was a renowned expert in the art of Kamasuthra, dance and music. She was the most powerful lady of Goa having hundreds of orderlies at her inn.
The threat of compulsory conversion by the Portuguese clergy have shadowed over all her richness. The whole villagers fled away without letting her know about it in a dark night and that compelled her to take refuge in the hands of a shoodra in a tribal village.
Her run away brother, Soorya Shirodkar, was caught and imprisoned in the notorious ‘Inquisition Camp’ and he had witnessed hundreds of men being nailed on the cross till death and burned some others who resisted the compulsory conversion.
Later, when the Portuguese compromised with the sacred cord, the Mangeeshi regained its tradition but what has happened to Meera, the much acclaimed celebrity?
The integrity of a poor girl Meera, a truly lived devadasi, becomes a question that has yet to be resolved.
