Deepak Rao is the Founder of CATHARSIS LTD, Headquartered in London, United Kingdom.
Deepak was born in the UK where his father Dr.H.N. Raja Rao was a Doctor working for the National Health Service. In 1993, his father felt homesick and missed India so the family relocated to Bengaluru, India.
From 1993 to 2005, Deepak grew up in Bengaluru and considers it home. He graduated with Distinction from Bangalore Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering.
Between 2000-2004, Deepak founded and was the frontman (Lead Guitar and Vocals) of the acclaimed band SHRAPNEL.
Shrapnel’s debut album INTELLECTUAL PURSUIT (on Spotify and all major platforms) was produced at Raveolution Studios by Grammy Award Winner Ricky Kej.
In 2004 Deepak was accepted into IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON for a Master’s degree in Advanced Mechanical Engineering. He graduated then decided he wanted to pursue a career in finance after taking an elective in finance from Imperial College Business School.
Deepak applied to the highly competitive investment banks and was accepted into the reputed Swiss Bank UBS where he worked for 7 years covering the technology sector M&A and Corporate Finance Practices.
Following stints in Venture Capital he returned to Bangalore to setup a entrepreneurial venture called Taxi Pixi and also because he was diagnosed with Type 1 Bipolar Affective Disorder (passed on genetically by his father who also suffered from the same condition) and at that point India was more conducive to his spiritual well being.
The last song of the SHRAPNEL album in 2004 was called CATHARSIS. Since 2004, Deepak decided that CATHARSIS would be the name of his company – little did he know he would also undergo a personal journey of CATHARSIS.
From 2012 to 2020 Deepak faced the wrath and eventual greatness of Saturn – things went wrong coupled with multiple bipolar manic episodes etc but he came out stronger.
He has received professional success working in Silicon Valley and being awarded an O-1 Extraordinary Ability in Business by the US government.
In 2020 Deepak’s dad fell ill and unfortunately passed away on 5th July 2020. One of the last conversations Deepak had with his Dad was about the guitar – so Deepak vowed to release CATHARSIS the debut solo album by Deepak Rao on 7th August 2021 – his Dad’s bday. Getting back to music after 15 years helped deal with the grief
Deepak has written a commentary of The Bhagavad Gita in memory of his father and is releasing that on 7th August 2021
In his spare time, Deepak is an entrepreneur and enjoys tech and building businesses. He is the CEO of CATHARSIS LTD registered in London. When not playing the guitar and writing and fooling around with the latest tech, Deepak is an outspoken activist for mental health and spiritual wellbeing.
