Description

"The ancient peoples everywhere understood the importance of Nature. The Chinese called the way of the universe The Tao, and the Greeks called her Gaia, or Mother Earth, the bountiful one, full of unconditional love. And it's not just our ancestors. Several people even today vouch for this interrelationship between all things in our universe. In 1970, two scientists, James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis, put forward the Gaia Theory, which states that this entire planet is one living organism. " - Grandpa Yogesh

Gaia’s Own: Every Child’s Guide to Living in Harmony with Nature is a book written to kindle the love for Nature in children. It shares concerns about the current environmental issues plaguing Earth in a casual, personal, and wholesome way. It also shares information on what is being done to alleviate these problems and fresh perspectives on what needs to be done further to completely course-correct and help maintain the balance in Nature conducive to a harmonious existence.

This book informs, educates, and inspires action via an exchange of emails between a young girl and her traveling grandfather. It introduces various concepts on the theme of Nature and climate change. This book is for everyone but is primarily written for preteens and older children.

Gaia's Own is an invitation to every reader, young and old, to reassess their priorities in the grand scheme of life... It aims to share ancient and modern insights about the interdependence between humans and the natural world. And it encourages everyone to spend more time in nature.

About the Author

Dharshana Bajaj is an artist, editor, and author. Her paintings celebrate the “human–nature” interconnection. Inspired by the ancient Indian Advaitha philosophy, and her own spiritual practices such as meditation and journaling, Dharshana aims to depict the “Oneness” of all that exists in her art. Deeply concerned about the climate change crisis, she wishes to raise awareness in the viewer on the importance of “reconnecting” with and bonding with nature, the way our ancestors did for thousands of years before. Dharshana believes that when each of us wakes up to the truth that we are not “apart” from Nature, but “a part” of it, we will start making better choices collectively. As in her art, in this book, readers will find an amalgamation of spirituality, science, and art.

Must read!!!

This is a brilliant book. Very well written. The human-nature interconnection is beautifully articulated and makes the reader want to take action to do more to save the environment. The world needs more of these reminders and this book could not have arrived at a better time...
