All citizens were given equal opportunity before the law but the fact remained that the social system which was prevailing for thousands of years in India, did not allow this to happen so easily. The majority of political parties in India use the people based on their Caste and Religion as a vote bank for favouring some segments of society and thereby depriving the right of other communities, which was guaranteed by the Constitution.
Even today, thousands of people are subjected to caste discrimination and the capability of a person is still determined by caste by Social Order. The former Untouchables have a different socio-economic environment in which their upbringing takes place and it has an effect on achieving proficiency in their chosen profession and career.
