The book contains a survey of incised stones which speak in their silences; sometimes a good deal on history. Those have been lying scattered in the nook and cranny of Western Region of Odisha -a hinter land of the country-unknown and unsung on some temple walls, isolated sculptures, cave walls, outcrops of stones and seals, et.al in inaccessible forest-clad areas, valleys and river-banks; exposed to sun, rain, winter and, last but not the least, vandalism of men. Many of those have been eroded, but survived our time. Though some of those contain only a word or a few words, a sentence or a small erratic and clumsy composition, yet their historical value is significant, those give information not found in the details of copper plate epigraphy; those fill up hiatuses and enrich history. In fact, it is rightly said, “language of man has failed before language of stone”
