Dengue is an increasing worldwide threat, with 50-100 million infections occurring annually in over 100 endemic countries putting almost half of the world’s population at risk. The incidence of dengue has increased 30 fold over last 50 years. Dengue being a mosquito borne viral infection causes a severe flu-like illness and sometimes potentially causes lethal complications called severe dengue. Measures should be taken for (1) control of the aforementioned causes to prevent disease; (2) essential laboratory tests in assessing a patient’s condition i.e. diagnosis and (3) treatment of the affected individuals.
