Dengue is an increasing worldwide threat, with 50-100 million infections occurring annually in over 100 endemic countries putting almost half of the world’s population at risk. The incidence of dengue has increased 30 fold over last 50 years. Dengue being a mosquito borne viral infection causes a severe flu-like illness and sometimes potentially causes lethal complications called severe dengue. Measures should be taken for (1) control of the aforementioned causes to prevent disease; (2) essential laboratory tests in assessing a patient’s condition i.e. diagnosis and (3) treatment of the affected individuals. The world’s poorest are the worst affected, and many treat themselves with traditional herbs. These are often more available and affordable, and sometimes are perceived as more effective than conventional therapy using synthetic compounds. This book will serve as a ready source for basic information on dengue and will help the researchers, students, doctors, patients and other concerned about control and management of dengue / dengue vector using medicinal herbs / plants. The reported pharmacological activities and possible mechanism of action of herbal drugs are also discussed in detail, which makes this book informative and unique.
