In this book, details about renewable energy sources are given. Further introduction and details about the smart grid are given. Average energy consumed per person has become the indicator to show the development of a country. Fossil fuels are a major source of energy presently but pollution is associated with them. Presently major power is produced by coal but now the use of solar energy to produce power is increasing rapidly. Nowadays the most preferred source of energy is electric power. The Indian power grid is one of the largest grids in the world which covers 1.3 billion people and an area of 3.2 million square kilometers.
The power supply had been monitored by the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system for many decades in the conventional grid system. The SCADA system measures voltage and frequency at 4-10 samples per second. The SCADA system does not measure voltage angle. Now Smart Grid is coming to replace SCADA. The smart Grid measures voltage and angle both and high-speed samples with real-time stamping are collected in the Smart Grid.
