Description

Dr.Vikram is an Orthopaedic surgeon practicing independently in a two-tier city in Karnataka. The increasing trend of assaults on doctors made him pursue Law as second career. His voracious reading transformed his life into a meaningful spiritual journey. Saddened by observing students wasting their prime learning time exactly the way he did and doctors struggling to balance personal and professional lives, he decided to write a book about his blunders in life and how he managed to overcome the hurdles. Hoping,  aspiring doctors can learn early what he learnt late and learn about life beyond medical school and the importance & advantages of being self employed.
Dr.Vikram began his journey like any other hard working, ambitious kid from a lower middle class family but because of unnecessary distractions of that fragile age, he disrespected time and wandered aimlessly, struggling to clear his MBBS in first attempt. Yet he manages to get a post graduate seat in Orthopedics.  Frustrated by the exploiting, humiliating PG training methods; he looses his cool, purpose and orientation,  rebels against the whole department. Ends up in trouble again, not learning much from his previous failures. In the midst of career and financial problems, romance blossoms in his life only to wither in pain. Against all odds he clears DNB, secures gold medal at the All India level and becomes a successful consultant in Kerala, only to be cornered by the hatred of a patient's kin. He moves to his home state and joins as a registrar in a  corporate hospital in Bangalore. Unable to fit in the hierarchical exploitative corporate system, he decides to start his own clinic. But ends up critically injured by patient attenders, while fighting for his friend's honour. With the help of a few inspiring people, he fights back, becomes a voracious reader and spiritual being. He settles down happily in a small town with a loving wife, kid and satisfying career. Agitated by the news of frequent assaults on doctors, he pursues to study Law; to fight passionately for the honour and respect of medical profession. Meanwhile a mob attacks his best friend's hospital in Bangalore.

Must read for all the doctors and medical students

Narration is simple and engaging, love the plot. I have read raw manuscript, waiting to read The copy. Author is a great compassionate doctor and humane being. His aim is to transform every doctor into a reader. I am not a reader myself, but this book definitely made me think about reading as basic necessity.
