Sunil Gangopadhyay (7 September 1934 – 23 October 2012) was a true legend in modern Bengali literature. His poetry and prose illuminate the lives of Bengalis everywhere every day. Not only was he an exceptionally prolific author that set the direction of Bengali literature, he also launched the careers of so many poets and authors over the years as an editor and mentor. On his passing in October 2012, we at Baikaliki are joined by literary luminaries and friends like Nirendranath Chakraborty, Dibyendu Palit and many others, to celebrate his ever gracious and trailblazing life. Sunilda influenced our lives profoundly, and together we hope to capture the memories of the generous soul that meant so much to us.
