Today, I am glad to present my study, the long-awaited publication of Linguistics. It is specially based on the syllabi of Linguistics prescribed for the first year students of B. Ed. at Tribhuwan University and Purbanchal University, and others in Nepal. The book can also be beneficial for the students of the Higher Secondary School Level. It can also be beneficial for Master’s Level English students in the faculties of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences.
I consider that the book is comprehensive enough to cover a wide range of concepts and categories of the core area of linguistics (i.e. language, linguistics, phonetics, phonology and morphology). It has been a great problem for the Students of B. Ed, first-year at T.U., K.U., and P U. to find a single textbook. I assure you this book will help the students to get a detailed knowledge of all the contents of the course of study.
The target group of students (i.e. the students of the level mentioned above) will certainly benefit from this book. It may also be interesting and useful to those general readers who want to acquire a basic knowledge of the phenomenon of language and the science that investigates its structure and functions.
The teaching and learning of linguistics in Nepal has been handicapped by a number of factors, such as the lack of well-qualified English teachers, the lack of good textbooks, the lack of teaching materials, the lack of physical facilities, etc. The lack of good textbooks and reference materials is one of the most serious problems. Students and campus libraries can hardly afford to buy books of Western publications.
