Description

Aquaculture industry continues to expand around the world due to the rising global demand for seafood coupled with the dwindling of the wild fish stocks. Diversification of shrimp species in different water systems for aquaculture has led to the exposure of these species to new environments and potentially new diseases. Water quality has an influence on growth and survival of shrimps as they live and grow in water. The water of good quality means the parameters of water are in the optimum range of requirement of shrimps. Failure to maintain good water quality leads to stress in shrimps and vulnerable to diseases. There exists interrelationship of the changes in water quality parameters. The study of these parameters helps to develop strategies to monitor water quality parameters and to implement schemes to maintain water quality and thereby better production.
