When a poor man becomes poorer it becomes difficult for him get his daughters married when survival of the family is an issue. At such a time, Indian uneducated poor father or mother used to kill a daughter by dipping her in a bucket of milk soon after birth (few decades ago).
This novel highlights points that a father must keep in mind to train his daughter to become self sufficient and to be on her own to be able to resist dowry system prevalent in many Indian societies.
Imaginary situations are drawn herein that deal with fault of a daughter, neglected wife, and "over fed son" having negative impact on other siblings.
Dangers of overrating your daughter are mentioned in order that a father gains right insight and orientation into the exact nature of promotion required to present his daughter in all cases of arranged marriages. It is good to treat a little girl as Princess, when you are not the King ruling a Kingdom, but after initial few years, the little Princess has to be converted to a hard working reality to face real life situations at home and work place or streets.
Gender equality would also mean that a female is equated with male in every respect, in job, military and police service, business, etc., and therefore, during normal times or financially rough periods, a female is equally liable to manage her parental or matrimonial family as a son used to in earlier times.
Equals cannot be treated unequally among a group of equals. Concept of equality cannot be different for one group of equals and altogether different for another group of equals. Discriminatory treatment would negate equality, fair play, and justice.
Moral deficiency in social makeup is highlighted that cannot be corrected by legislation or judicial pronouncements.
Need to conduct attitude and aptitude tests is seriously stressed during school days for a better future.
We need to understand numerals of social economics and revive ethical conduct in our social structure. Law will not be effective without ethical stance of the populace.
