Fundamental Rights represent the cornerstone of constitutional democracy in India,
embodying the essential liberties and freedoms that citizens enjoy against the arbitrary exercise
of state power. These rights, incorporated in Part III of the Indian Constitution (Articles 12-
35), serve as the bedrock of individual dignity and democratic governance. The framers of the
Constitution, deeply influenced by the American Bill of Rights and the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights, recognized that without these guaranteed freedoms, democracy would
remain a hollow promise.
