The term CSR and Sustainability has grown multi-dimensional and we at
International Institute of Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility contribute to
the evolving dynamics of the subject. In today's world, Sustainable development
encompasses the sheer existence of business to a being. The meaning of CSR initiated
from corporate philanthropy to terming it sustainable and focussing on the environment
and now includes Corporate Governance, Ethical practices, clean supply chain and
more. Thus, encircling concepts of concern at every juncture. These emerging
approaches are instrumental in the Sustainable Development Goal of the
planet at large.
This path is being adopted across the management of the corporates and the
functioning of every commercial and non-commercial entity. The minerals
extracted by the extractive industry are perishable and thus the sustainability of this
industry is of prime importance. The extractive industry would not only involve mining of
minerals but also power, petroleum, steel and all the spheres where extraction
activities are undertaken or its by-products are directly or indirectly used in the
supply chain.
Internationally many innovative sustainable initiatives have been executed and in
India we have focussed more on social inclusion which is emerging at a rampant pace.
The Extractive Industry and Sustainable Development (EISD '17) compendium is an
initiative to bring to light such initiatives and encourage more corporates in the sector
to join the transformational leadership efforts. The lapses in the conventional form of
execution have risen the pressing need for sustainable and responsible praxis in every
structure. The vision of “New India” and the “New World” is complete only with the
discipline of Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility.
