Most professionals work hard. Very few rise.

Why? Because real career growth is shaped less by effort—and more by influence, perception, and the hidden dynamics no one teaches you.

In Edge of Influence: The Unwritten Rules of Exceptional Careers, Karthik Somnath reveals a practical, psychology-backed playbook for growing faster, becoming visible, and standing out in any organization. With nearly three decades across startups, global MNCs, consulting and product companies—and client engagements across geographies—Karthik distills the realities of modern work into clear, actionable strategies anyone can apply.

This book goes beyond motivation. It shows you how careers actually move.

About the Author

For close to three decades, Karthik Somnath has been navigating the evolving worlds of technology, business, and leadership — starting in the late 90s, when the digital age was just taking shape. From nimble startups to multinational corporations, from product companies to high-value consulting firms, he has built, led, and transformed teams and organizations across the Americas, Europe, and APAC.
He has managed large, critical customer engagements, collaborating with C-suite executives to deliver solutions that matter. Along the way, he has built high-performing teams, launched products and platforms, and guided companies through complex challenges with clarity and strategic insight.
An invited speaker at esteemed educational institutions, he has shared his experiences with aspiring technologists and leaders, offering lessons from the frontlines of innovation, leadership, and career growth.
Outside the boardrooms and strategy sessions, he loves to create music, and is a composer-lyricist with studio albums — a testament to his belief that creativity and strategy are not separate, but intertwined.
What drives him most is a simple conviction: Leadership is less about authority and more about influence. It’s this philosophy that shapes the insights and frameworks in Edge of Influence, designed to help anyone — from fresh graduates to senior executives — rise, impact, and lead with purpose.
