Learner autonomy refers to a student's ability to set appropriate learning
goals and take charge of his or her own learning. There is a need to nurture
learner as learner who can function as autonomous individual and can tune
himself according to the social requirements of his society.
For nurturing the learner autonomy, teachers must dispel the fear from the
mind of student; use innovative methods of teaching; focus on the child's
personality; promote the freedom of the child; foster creativity; read the child
and provide opportunities to express views and kindling an awakening in the
mind of the student.
To keep all the points in mind, the present book is an attempt to create a
conducive ambiance for a learner to become autonomous. Papers, in this
book, were presented in National Level Seminar organised by Anjuman-I-Islam's
Akbar Peerbhoy College of Education, Navi Mumbai. All articles
enlighten us on different aspects of learners autonomy, raise questions
regarding the importance of autonomy for a learner, and conclude that
learner autonomy is not a threat to teachers autonomy.
