This report offers a thorough analysis of how to properly categorise C&D debris for
long-term resource management. It examines C&D waste in India, including its sources and
management, current regulatory structures, international standards and the country's regulatory
landscape.Construction and demolition waste (C&D waste) contributes significantly to
environmental problems and needs to be managed carefully, prioritizing prevention, recycling
and proper waste disposal.Responsible waste management practices are heavily influenced by
the regulatory framework in India, such as the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)
Guidelines 2021.The role of international standards in promoting international best practices and
harmonizing C&D waste management strategies will be discussed. The Construction and
Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016, which lay the legal foundation for eco-friendly
waste management in India, were also highlighted for their importance.Inadequate infrastructure,
lack of understanding, and regulatory hurdles are just some of the issues that are highlighted in
this discussion of the difficulties inherent in C&D waste management. In conclusion, the paper
emphasizes that effective C&D waste management is not only an environmental imperative but
also a pathway to resource conservation and the promotion of circular economy principles. The
review underscores the need for continued commitment to improving C&D waste management
in India and globally, fostering sustainable development for current and future generations.
