The book gives a comprehensive, up-to-date account of the essential topics in Russian Phonetics and Phonology in a graded manner, following the tenets of the Moscow Phonological School. Intended for the students of Russian language, literature, culture and allied subjects, but can also benefit teachers, interpreters, tourist guides, translators, newsreaders, anchors, actors, singers, cartographers, airlines pilots et al. in India and elsewhere, who have at least Diploma-level knowledge of Russian.
The book introduces typical features of Russian scientific narrative so as to prepare the students for the subsequent study of other Linguistics disciplines. Every lesson is followed by Questions and Supplementary Tasks to make the students relate their knowledge of Phonetics to phenomena in the physical world.

About the Author

With a B.Tech. degree in Chemical Engineering [1974], M.A. [1979] and Ph.D. [1988] in Russian language and a Diploma in French language [1987], Ram Das Akella, a polyglot [Telugu, English, Hindi, Russian, Marathi, French], brings to this book 45 years of experience in teaching Russian.

Dimri [a collection of articles by eminent practitioners of Foreign Language Teaching], 2012, 5) Vairudhyalu [direct Telugu translation of about 500 Russian poems by Vyacheslav Kupriyanov], 2022, 6) Pratidhvani [direct Telugu translation of some of the Russian poems in "Echo" [1988] by Kupriyanov.
