What is HRM
Human resource (HR) is used to describe both the people who work for company or organization and the department responsible for managing resources related to employees. The term Human Resources was first coined in the 1960s when the value of labor relation began to garner attention and when notice such as motivation, organization behavior, and selection assessments began to take shape. The overall purpose of HR is to ensure that the organization is able to achieve success through people.
Human resource management is contemporary, umbrella term used to describe the management and development of employees in an organization. It is the process of recruiting, selecting , inducting employees, providing orientation, imparting training and development, appraising the performance of employees, deciding compensation and providing benefits, motivating employees, maintaining proper relations with employees and their committees and trade unions , ensuring employee safety, welfare and health measures in compliances with labour laws of the land.
Why HRM
The role of human resource department has gone from the traditional ‘hire and fire’ to an in-depth position, focusing on talent management and employee engagement, and through this contribute to the business as a whole.
Not every company understands or values their human resource department, Human resources professionals are the life blood of the company, because their job is to ensure that the business gets the most out of its employees, in other words, the human resource department need to provide a high return on the department’s investment in its people.
