Congrats on another masterpiece of yours smitaji. This story too tells of your flair of writing astutely. Completely dappled in the emotions of love, jealousy and swoon-worthy romance, this story is a 'coming of age' one based on the first love of an innocent girl, Gouri. Never have I read of a more adorable or guileless character. Set against the lush backdrop of kerala, the story is rich in culture and tradition without being boring or monotonous. Shivan is a man after every girls heart and despite his flaws, he loves fiercely. Gouri and Shivettan's heart touching saga is a perfect embodiment of the quote 'Love triumphs'. A splendid literary work of a gifted writer.
Loved the simple love story of Gouri and Shivettan in a village backdrop. Gouri reminds me of the phrase,'Once bitten twice shy', after she thinks Shivettan doesn't love her at all but loves some other girl but still prays for his and his family's well being. Shivettan though looks like a complex man is a simple human being who fiercely protects his loved ones. And loved how you have also strongly said no to cruelty against animals. Finally after 3 years of waiting, the true lovers become one for eternity. Nice story. Thanks.
I remember requesting Smitha chechi to write a book where heroine falls in love with the hero first.. But, she replied saying that she has already started writing a book on that concept and it will be out soon..
Never in my dream did I expect such an awesome story of Shivan and Gouri..
How should I describe the characters.. Gouri is the most innocent girl I have ever read and by each page passing you will fall in love with her more and more ... and Shivan is the perfect partner any girl would look in as her husband.. Born in Kerala I can clearly imagine each and every scene.. let it be festival or marriage.. and through this book I got more ideas about why and how most of the rituals are done..
In this book you can get everything you are looking in for a romance novel... love, jealousy, humor...
Even though its love story of Shivan and Gouri, the author has given equal importance to the family... and I loved how she tried to include each and every person perfectly...
not even humans, pets do have more than supporting role..
I have lots of say about this book, but not getting enough words.. but will surely say to give it a try.. you all will love it ..
Smitha chechii... you are born to write... If this was given to me as a book I would have come down to get it autographed by you..
Love you.. Waiting for your next book..
Congrats once more for this work..
Thank you
Anyone who has read Smita's works, knows her stories are about love, trust, families and their dynamics and above all a sweet 'happily ever after'. They are packed with positivity and invariably have undertones of some serious thought-provoking issues. All plated and served with a liberal sprinkling of mirth and humour.
'Waiting For You" is no exception. It is the story of Gouri - a lovable eighteen year old girl, right on the brink of womanhood, who falls head over heels for Shivettan - a handsome doctor who hails from her village and is eight years her senior. It is the story of a young love coming of age. Shivettan's love, so selfless and wondrous that it takes a conscious decision of letting her go, just because that is the right thing to do .... for her. So unconditional, that his love transcends the chasms of distance and time. While miles separate them, she continues to be his want and need and he never ceases to be her protector.
And it is about the virgin love of an eighteen year old that knows only giving, without claiming anything in return. Her heartfelt love for him, always puts him first. A spark which begins as a hopeless crush evolves into a feeling that becomes the very essence of her being.
Set against the backdrop of lush Kerala, 'Waiting For You' delivers everything that Smita's words always promise. Sweet romance, a passionate declaration of love, hard-wearing relationships, close-knit families, festivities, fun and frolic! In this story she paints an ethereal picture of the magic and enigma that is 'God's own country'.
If one is a fan of Smita's work, this book is definitely worth a shot.
They say, 'When you know why you like someone, it is a crush. When you have no reason or explanation, it is love!!'
Gouri and Shivettan's story is a beautiful embodiment of this quote. :)
Smi, I waited for 'Waiting For You' for like... forever!!.... and now when I have read it, all I want to say is that it was absolutely worth the wait. <3

This is the most moving story of Smita I have read until now. It has been a couple of days since I completed reading but everytime I get a spare moment I come back to thinking about Gouri and Shivettan. Each and every character has been beautifully crafted to show us 2 families like our very own. The words paint the pictures so vivdly and I could smell the coconuts being cut and taste the payasams being served. Gouri's innocence and playfulness made her love unconditional but others viewed it as a passable-crush. In real llife, I wish no man calls upon a girl to stop stalking him when he too truly loves her. While all that happened in the end makes the sufferings insignificant, I couldn't help feeling sorry for Gouri, crying everyday for the crime of loving. The way she shaped up just in three years shows her character is that of a strong woman deep inside.
Here, I just got carried away as if these are real people. But they seem so real to me thanks to your wonderful writing Smita.
You rock ! Lage Raho !
Congratulations Smita !!!
Wow! This book reminds me of the reason why Smita is one of my favourite authors. Her writing style is stunning, and Smita does a superb job of creating her characters; her settings and her story.
An amazing story with nosy, annoying neighbors, adorable achu - the elephant, cute troublesome unni, loads of humour and much more.I read it in one sitting because I needed to know what was going to happen next and the style was such that I couldn't stop reading once started.
All the very best for your future works!

Love the story, the scenery and the characters. The way the story flows is brilliant with the scene description adding to the story. Started reading it and couldn't put it down.
Highly recommend this book.
I love the way Smita narrates a story. Her stories are very simple and close to heart. 'Waiting for you' brought back a lot of childhood memories. Each and every character in the story has an identity. I felt the same excitement, pain and happiness that Gouri and Shivan went thru while reading thru the story. Thank you for this wonderful story and all the best for your future works as well.
Smita has an amazing way with words. I love her stories because of the simple story - telling style, lovable characters and the positivity! For a person like myself, who had no idea about the traditions and customs followed in rural villages in Northern Kerala, this beautiful story was an insight into all that and also a very unique experience. If you are having a bad day, I'd prescribe this book for you...
Congratulations Smita !! For your new creation ' Waiting for You'. For bringing a dreamy , authentic and beautiful story alive in every sense !! For having such a lovely ability of storytelling that it starts to instantly play in our minds as we read and continues to linger once done.. For taking us on a journey to the beautiful God's own country in such vivid detail in the back drop while Gauri's journey to Shivan keeps us enthralled ..For showing us the interesting culture and traditions of rural Kerala through your eyes .. For making the characters so real and relatable that they stay with us for ever.. For keeping this story and plot simple ...For literally showing us a perfect frame of every possible emotion moving us every moment in their joy, love ,angst and everything in between .. And finally for giving your precious gems for us to bask in , away from what ever reality is ....so...keep those books coming..
Smita! I have always admired your works. Life is simple and you show life with lots of positivity. This book brings back my childhood memories. Achu, river, temple and the rich culture and simple lively life. In this negative world, your works bring life with a new positive outlook. Another feather in your cap! Simply loved it. Will be waiting for your next book
Smita Ramachandran is an excellent storyteller having crafted a compelling and emotionally nuanced tale featuring very simple characters. She always manages to find a way to bring the characters to life and infuse them with such depth and personal intrigue that it is impossible not to fall in love with each one.
Waiting For You is set in a village in Kerala and brings back to me memories of the greenery, rivers and simple nice people I grew up with. It is a well written and very readable story that will definitely appeal to readers who like me like their Romance stories with a goodly-sized-order of angst.
Along with Gowri and Shivan, I think I loved little Unni who was a pest at times but also Gowri’s partner in crime along with friend Rajesh. Shivan’s father and Achu the elephant needs special mention for their unlimited love for Gowri.
Life with all its complications and bustle - leaves us feeling exhausted sometimes. There are too many things to do and not enough hours in a day to do all of them in.
It is at a time like that 'Waiting for you' comes in like a breathe of fresh, clean air. With words that drew pictures in my mind of a village in Kerala, the fresh greenery, the village river, the characters - all unabashedly interfering and matchmaking - Smita has managed to create a story that is simple and yet poignant.
I laughed and cried and cheered when the heroine got her hero at the end of the book.
