The Uttarakandam is often the disputed canto of the Ramayana, with some experts considering it a latter addition. This canto provides the background stories of a number of characters, and often times reades as a part prologue and a part epilogue.
However, the canto does live up to the promise of being the last one in the epic, by taking the narrative to a logical conclusion, describing the fates of Rama, his brothers, Sita, the future generation, and, indeed, the citizens of Ayodhya.
In this seventh and final volume of the now acclaimed series, the author describes how the poets have wrapped up this epic with their instructive tales on living a good life, as well as drawing to a close, the life story of Rama. This series continues in the comparative study of the epic as told by the three main narrations.
