The Union Minister of AYUSH concluded his speech at the International Conference on Health Care Reform, Health Economics, and Health Policy (ICHCRHEHP), held at the Goa International Centre in Ponda, Goa. He stepped down from the stage and moved toward the door leading outside. Suddenly, a gunshot rang out. Shripad Naik collapsed, blood splattering the front of his body. Chaos erupted.
A second, softer gunshot was heard by a few, and the masked man fell to the ground, blood pooling around him.
Naresh Prabhu, Superintendent of Police, CBI, stationed in Mumbai, arrived the next day and took charge of the investigation.
He placed greater hope in someone recognizing one of the three photographs, especially that of the so-called Dubey—the man who had killed the AYUSH Minister and was then killed himself. The other two photographs were of poor quality.
Instead of receiving news about the suspects’ identification, he was met with another shocking update—the suspicious death of Health Minister Jagannath Panda.
Jagannath Panda had gone to inaugurate the two-day eighth edition of the International Conference on Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices at the Bharat Habitat Centre on Lodhi Road. As he crossed the hub area, a bullet fired from an elevated position struck him directly in the head, killing him instantly.
Additional Director, CBI, A.Z.W. Raman considered himself fortunate to have gained access to the crime scene without much disturbance, and still remained away from the prying eyes of the media.
The CBI Director, Naveen Sood, told both officers,
“The details so far from both cases suggest a deeper conspiracy. I am not assigning a single investigator to both cases because two minds working independently will be more effective.”
Who killed whom? Who ordered which killing? And for what reasons?
