Description

The Tale They Couldn’t Steal
A Sikh girl’s mystery of stolen art, hidden truths, and courage
This is Black and white version.
Thirteen-year-old Manroop Kaur is quiet, creative, and the only Amritdhari Sikh girl at her school. Her sketchbook is her sanctuary—home to Baaz, a turbaned superhero forged from storms, Sikh history, and silent strength.

But when her artwork is stolen and plagiarised in a national competition, Manroop must decide whether to stay silent or speak up—even if no one believes her.

In a world that often misunderstands her identity, Manroop draws from her roots, her resilience, and her faith to reclaim what’s hers. What begins as a case of stolen sketches becomes a battle for truth, justice, and self-worth.

A first-of-its-kind middle grade mystery, this powerful and heart-stirring story explores cultural pride, creative ownership, and the courage it takes to be seen.

Will Manroop find the strength to stand up and be seen—or will her truth be erased forever?

Perfect for fans of Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys, The Tale They Couldn’t Steal blends the suspense of a classic mystery with the heart of a girl learning to fight for her identity, art, and voice.

This is Black and white version.

About the Author

Jasmeet Kaur is an English Language Educator based out of Delhi with a passion for reading. Growing up, she devoured books like Nancy Drew, Secret Seven, Hardy Boys, Harry Potter, and Famous Five—but she often felt disconnected from the characters, as there were no stories featuring Amritdhari teenagers like herself.

This feeling of being an outsider became her inspiration to write The Tale They Couldn't Steal, a novel that gives young readers, especially those from Sikh backgrounds, a protagonist they can truly relate to and look up to.

The Tale They Couldn't Steal is Jasmeet’s first book, and through it, she hopes to inspire courage, identity, and belonging in teenagers who have long awaited their own stories in literature.
