One day, when I was going through the News Paper, I read a news captioned “Good heavens! Vatican rehabilitating Galileo – is going from heretic to hero” reported by Nicole Winfield, from Vatican City dated 25th December, 2008. Immediately, I got an idea WHAT IF this happened long before, when Galileo was alive? I thought about the invention and studies of Galileo ahead of his times. I started thinking of other inventions and gathered information and constructed words after words to compile this book. In this quest, I spent a lot of time going through books, news papers, internet and even my son’s school books. For every invention, the names, dates, years and other text are facts. The facts are mentioned correctly as far as possible. Some of the inventor’s country is mentioned as per the patents they received from that country due to lack information. To help understand better, the chronological development of the inventions are mentioned in some cases. Wherever possible, it is tried to mention the Indian context of the invention in bold text. The old names of Indian cities Bombay, Calcutta, Madras are mentioned as per the time of references made. The text in italics is my imagination, what if the invention is not made or discovered? For further information, the readers are advised to look into the concerned topics in detail. This book is an attempt to bring the readers closer to the inventors of the technology that changed our lives. I expect the book will serve as general reading for knowing the inventors of the things we use directly or indirectly in our daily life. I express my gratitude and acknowledgements for those who helped me in bringing out this book.
