Description
Some run fast and burn out. Some run slow and never arrive. And then there’s the tortoise — moving with purpose, thinking ahead, winning without rushing.
In Winning at Tortoise Pace: Slow Steps, Sure Mindset, I share a collection of witty, heart-warming, and sharply insightful stories inspired by the timeless tortoise. Drawing from my own life, where walking speed is limited but mental sharpness is limitless, I show how steady focus, smart planning, and patient persistence can outdo raw speed.
Each short story distils a powerful lesson — from starting early, to making quality decisions, to turning disadvantages into strengths. This is not just a fable retold; it’s a philosophy for life, work, and personal growth.
Whether you’re facing physical limits, battling distractions, or simply looking for a calmer, wiser way to win, this book will remind you: slow doesn’t mean weak — it can mean unstoppable. Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 6, Verse 17 teaches us to stay balanced,
yuktāhāra-vihārasya yukta-ceṣṭasya karmasu |
yukta-svapnāvabodhasya yogo bhavati duḥkha-hā ||
The verse emphasises moderation and balance in life. True discipline is not about extremes but about living with balance—eating properly, resting enough, working steadily, and maintaining harmony between body, mind, and actions. Such a life leads to peace and freedom from suffering.
Jitendra Pant is a lifelong learner, patient observer, and practical mentor who has carried the spirit of the tortoise through more than five decades of work and life. A graduate of IIT Delhi, he built his career in Operations Management, specialising in cost control, Kaizen, quality systems, capacity utilisation, inventory optimisation, and productivity enhancement. But behind these technical skills lies a deeper philosophy — that lasting change comes not from rushing, but from steady, thoughtful action over time.
Throughout his career, Jitendra has lived by a core belief: “Ask yourself whether what you do adds Value — if it does, go ahead.” This tortoise-like principle of persistence has guided him across shopfloors, Kaizen workshops, and mentoring sessions with young and senior managers, and entrepreneurs. Whether in India, Japan, Korea, Kenya, England, or Scotland, he discovered that small, consistent steps — when compounded over years — transform people, processes, and organisations.
As the Founder of JMPS Health & Education Care Foundation (a registered Section 8 company with 12A and 80G approvals), Jitendra now applies the same philosophy of patience and purpose in social work. He mentors underprivileged students after Class 12, guiding them not just toward degrees but toward real, sustainable careers. The Foundation also supports dialysis patients and physiotherapy programs for the needy, extending the principle of slow, steady care into the sphere of health.
Jitendra is the author of more than 15 books, each drawing from real-life problems, shopfloor insights, and everyday wisdom. His works —Operations Management Demystified; 5S- The First Step to Operations Excellence; Kaizen Catalyst; Problem Solving; Time Management; No; Confidence Building; Nano Insights; Wisdom in Verses; Baby Mira Eight weeks Memoir; Anyone who can walk is my fitness hero; 25 Lessons from Uncommon thoughts; Don’t Blame, If You Have to Blame, Blame Yourself; Go to Gemba: The Power of Genchi, Genbutsu, Genjitsu; Born Again at 75; Doing-Do as you say and say what you do, Cost cut at every cost, and more are in process.— all reflect his observations and experiences with people and nature.
He continues to write, mentor, and share — convinced that in a noisy, hurried world, the tortoise’s lessons of patience, frugality, resilience, and balance matter more than ever.
Living in India and drawing joy from his grandchildren in Singapore and the U.S., Jitendra carries forward the quiet but firm conviction that life is not about running the rat race — but about walking one’s journey with purpose, discipline, and delight.
