Hailed from the Malwa belt of Punjab, Kavishri is simple spoken thoughts in various metrical poetry. It is a vibrant and expressive genre that combines poetry, and social commentary. Kavishri is a revolving around malwa and took inspiration from various other folk genres such as epic-play, epithalamiums, etc while being an independent poetry form. As malwa grew, new meters and themes of kavishri, made it the closest popular literature to the high Literature of Punjabi as said by Dr. Vanjara Bedi. It was not considered as high literature. But, We found kavishri of lakha singh akkanwali(posthumously), some verses whose, hold the concepts of meaning creation(maani-afreeni) and paronomasia(riaayat-lafzi) of Urdu literary theory along with proprietary (auchitya) and deviant-utterance (vakrata) of Indian literary theory, gives kavishri a new possibility to stand out in the realm of high literature of Punjabi. We are publishing his kavishri in 7 volumes and here's the first volume of his work. We also discuss the relevance of kavishri in contemporary Punjabi songs that are inclined to the Western hip-hop genre, Which bridges the gap between commercial lyricism and high literature in upcoming volumes. Findings are aimed at reviving the aesthetics of the countryside of Punjab and old idioms in contemporary writings.
