In August 2018, the south Indian state of Kerala faced the worst floods due to incessant rainfall, during the monsoon season. In those inundating and horrifying floods, the loss of over 480 people was reported with over 140 missing. Over a million people were evacuated to safe locations, in and around the affected districts, with all facilities, to tide over the calamitous situation. All fourteen districts were placed under red alert and it was estimated that over one sixth of the total population of the state was directly affected by the floods and related incidents. It was the great calamitous and worst floods after 1924 deluge that engulfed the state’s economy badly. Thirty five out of fifty four dams in the state were opened for the first time in the history of the state.
The fury of the nature was not satisfied with the calamitous situation generated by the earlier year’s floods and the same was repeated during the next year. On 8 the August 2019, the state faced another peculiar situation due to incessant rainfall in the monsoon season. As the government of Kerala took timely action, in the light of previous year’s experiences, followed by issuing red alert in many districts and timely action to shift many people from the most flood prone areas to camps, many lives were saved for which the authorities deserve accolades with great appreciation.
The calamities from the repeated floods were one of the reasons to think of penning down few pages with that background, highlighting a feeble incident. The courage and voluntary inbuilt characteristics of few volunteers, as heard, were instrumental in choosing the girl character, Riya in this book. Her timely and intelligent actions were instrumental in saving many innocent lives, tramped inside an isolated area by the landslide, with the help of an Air Force helicopter.
