The history of Nagarjuna Hill dates back to the 3rd century BCE, the reign of the Satavahana dynasty. Nagarjuna Hill gained significant prominence under the Ikshvaku dynasty's rule in the 3rd and 4th centuries CE. Ikshvaku’s support led to the construction of numerous stupas, viharas (monasteries), and chaityas (prayer halls) here. Acharya Nagarjuna, one of the most influential figures in Mahayana Buddhism, played a crucial role in the development.
