You do not need a rare talent or intelligence. You only need depth in one skill. Most people don’t realise how far a simple skill can go when taken seriously.
Earlier, being competent was sufficient because opportunities were limited and competition was local.
Every skill is neutral by default. It does not inherently have a size, status, or value. On its own, a skill has no rank, no built-in importance, and no inherent ceiling. It’s just an ability to produce a certain kind of result. Calling a skill “small” or “big” says more about how we’re looking at it than about the skill itself.
Beyond Good Enough is a book about why being average has quietly become the most fragile place to stand in the modern world and how ordinary people can turn ordinary skills into extraordinary.
