The rapid transformation of electric power distribution networks from passive, centrally controlled
infrastructures to highly dynamic, intelligent, and cyber‑physical systems has fundamentally changed
the way electricity is generated, delivered, monitored, and protected. Increasing penetration of
distributed energy resources (DERs), renewable generation, power electronic converters, electric
vehicles, and microgrids has introduced bidirectional power flow, variable fault characteristics,
complex protection coordination challenges, and stringent requirements on sensing, communication,
and real‑time control. In this context, traditional distribution system design and protection philosophies
are no longer sufficient to ensure reliability, safety, and resilience.

About the Authors

Mr. Sharad Chandra Rajpoot
Sharad Chandra Rajpoot is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Chhattisgarh Institute of Technology (CGIT), Jagdalpur, Bastar, Chhattisgarh, India. He received his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering in 2012 from the Government Engineering College, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, and his Master of Technology in Power System Engineering in 2014 from the C.V.R.U. Kota Bilaspur. His research interests include Smart Grid technologies, Microgrids, micro-Phasor Measurement Units (µPMUs), Wireless Communication Networks, and the Internet of Things (IoT) applications in power systems. He has made significant academic contributions with more than 43 research publications in reputed international journals and conferences. He is the author of one textbook titled Basic Electrical & Electronics Engineering and has contributed three book chapters to edited volumes published by recognized academic publishers. In addition to his scholarly work, he holds four granted patents, reflecting his engagement in applied research and technological innovation. He had awarded the International Distinguished Young Researcher Award-2024 & the National Eminent Young Researcher Award-2020. He is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).

Mrs. Archana Tamrakar
Archana Tamrakar is an accomplished academician with a strong background in engineering and higher education. She completed her B.Tech. from Samrat Ashok Technological Institute, Vidisha (2004) and successfully qualified the MPPSC examination in 2007, leading to her selection as an Assistant Professor at Rewa Engineering College. She further enhanced her academic credentials by completing her M.Tech. from IIT Roorkee (2016–2018) under the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP). Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Allahabad (since 2023) under the QIP scheme, continuing her commitment to advanced research and academic excellence.

Dr. Padmini Sharma
Dr. Padmini Sharma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Chhatrapati Shivaji Institute of Technology, Durg, Chhattisgarh, India, with 21 years of teaching experience in engineering education. She completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (2003) and Master of Technology in Instrumentation and Control (2008) from Bhilai Institute of Technology, Durg, Chhattisgarh. She was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in 2019 by C.V. Raman University, Kota, Bilaspur, for her research entitled “Design and Simulation of Numerical Protective Relay in Power System Oscillations.” She is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE). Her research interests include power system protection, optimization techniques, robust stability analysis, and computer-aided power system analysis. Dr. Sharma has authored the textbook “Basic Electrical Engineering,” published by Dhanpat Rai Publications, and continues to actively contribute to teaching, research, and academic development in the field of electrical engineering

Dr. Manjusha Silas
Dr. Manjusha Silas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Christian Engineering College, Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, India, with 20 years of teaching experience in engineering education. She received her Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (2003) and Master of Technology in Instrumentation and Control (2008) from Bhilai Institute of Technology, Durg, Chhattisgarh.She was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in 2025 by Bhilai Institute of Technology, Durg, under Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University, for her doctoral research entitled “Optimal Design of Robust Fractional Order Controller for Systems with Parametric Uncertainties.”Dr. Silas is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE). Her research interests include fractional-order control systems, optimization techniques, robust stability analysis, and computer-aided power system analysis. She actively contributes to teaching, research, and academic development in the field of electrical engineering.
