The objective of this book - “Swami Vivekananda and Women Emancipation is to create an atmosphere that stimulates creativeness, research and growth in the area Swami Vivekananda and his ideas on Women Emancipation.In celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the great preacher of Hinduism, it is natural to remember him for his perspective towards women. It is a sad situation that Vivekananda spread Indian values and cultures in the Western world, and today Indian women are striving to protect their basic modesty. Vivekananda rightly believes that progress of any kind in a nation is impossible unless its women are given the freedom of thoughts and actions. He contributed greatly towards improving the plight of women, especially the Indian women. He saw the imperative need of women’s uplift since he believed that nations can achieve the status of greatness only by showering due respect to their women. He considered women the living images of Sakti, and unless they are given respect, human race can only degenerate in the future. He wrote “the uplift of the women, the awakening of the masses, must come first, and then only can any real good come about for the country, for India”. However, he has also warned that Indians should not judge women’s condition by the morals and perspectives of others. It is quite an irony, that Indians today are remembering the teachings of Vivekananda, remembering him as the pride of the nation, however in this same nation every other day women are finding their safety at stake everywhere in this nation.The aim and scope of the book is to provide an academic medium and an important reference for the advancement and dissemination of research results that supports high level learning, teaching and research in this domain.
