Modern Architecture is based on ideas & concepts about experiential quality of space, and its focus is on the physical and psychological comfort of people in a built environment. This book is an attempt to provide a concise and simple narrative about the entire history of modern architecture, one that is easily comprehensible to a reader with no background in the subject.
Part one of the book deals with the development of modern architecture since the industrial revolution, early movements like Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts, and includes contribution of the pioneers like F. L. Wright, Le Corbusier and many others, leading to the International Style of Architecture.
Part two of the book deals with later movement like Post-modernism, Critical Regionalism and De-constructivism. It includes development of modern architecture in India after independence and works of Achyut Kanvinde, Charles Correa, B. V. Doshi & Laurie Baker, who tried to synthesize the modern movement with the Indian architectural traditions, paving the way for a sustainable architecture.
