Description

Autobiographies of famous persons may be read by many, but those of ordinary persons find few readers, if any! Then, why did I think of writing my life stories? The reason is that I do think younger people can learn from the life experiences of even the ordinary people of older generation. However, most people are not interested in the “autobiographies” of ordinary people which are most likely to be boring! That is why I decided to present my experiences in a more interesting way and not chronological narration of my life. So, this is not an autobiography in a classical sense, but a story book, a collection of interesting anecdotes woven around what defines me as a person and how that person has changed over 70 odd years of my life so far. I hope my stories will hold up some lesson or the other that I have tried to highlight and that would be useful for the younger generation. This world has a tremendous variety and one can possibly experience only a small part of it in one life time. I am contented that I have sampled life to a fair degree and it serves the purpose of my coming into this world in this life reasonably well. There is no point in wishing and striving till your last breath for what you haven’t experienced and thus remaining unhappy and thirsty forever because then there will be no end to that!

I have not named any names including mine as author! It will help protect reputations without unnecessarily ruffling any feathers.

This book is organized in different chapters with each centered on one particular aspect of my life, personality or a life principle. The focus is not on me but rather on telling through real stories - some sweet, some bitter - how one may change through life’s experiences and learn.

About the Author

It is needless to say that one changes over one’s life because, like it is said, change is the only constant in life. But I will dare say that changes in my life are probably much more than average. I grew up in a medium sized town in a typical conservative household as a god-believing and even god-fearing child. My childhood till early youth can be considered to be fairly protected. I used to be the topper in the class almost all through my schooling. Then I was sent out from that protected environment into hostel life far away in a metropolitan city for studying engineering in a premier institute. Subsequent to graduation, I took up jobs in different fields and in many different places. I changed job 12 times and moved residence over 25 times so far! I started my career in manufacturing industry, moved into banking and later into software development. I have travelled abroad to different countries for short project assignments of up to 3 months. That is some change I have experienced, you would concede! Like a cousin jocularly remarked, I changed everything except my wife!

Finally, probably tired and bored of so much change, I hung my boots a little early at the age of 53 and decided to pursue my interest in spirituality and writing. I got formally initiated into spirituality by my Sadguru in 2006 and have been doing regular sadhana (spiritual practice like meditation) since then. I have read and reread Shrimad Bhagawad Geeta and the explanations of it by many different philosopher writers. That has shaped my spiritual philosophy.

I always had a flair for writing and a reasonably good command over English as well as Marathi languages. I started writing letters to newspapers on current affairs. For a few years, my letters used to regularly get published in a few leading newspapers until Times of India, for example, stopped the Letters column itself. I also wrote blogs on spirituality and wrote a few articles that got published in newspapers. Later, I wrote and self-published on Amazon many books on spirituality, some my own and some translations.

On this background, I would say that life pushed me through so many changes that I did not get attached to anything and that helped me become spiritual!

I have come to believe that this life is basically for sampling the tremendous variety in this world and not for achieving any particular universal goal. In the end, we all die and take nothing from this world with us. In that sense, I feel contented and free from any mental burdens. Today, my children are independent and well settled. I am leading a relaxed life spending my waking time in reading, contemplating, some very moderate interactions on social media, watching TV and some spiritual practices. I do write and publish books now and then whenever some idea moves me into it.
