Education plays a significant role in maintaining the economic fabric of a country. It is an important
tool for providing quality of life to its citizens by building a knowledge-based information society.
Higher education in India has attained global dimensions in the 21st century which has led to
restructuring of existing frameworks and opening of new avenues for development in the field of
access, quality improvement, infrastructure, technology, strategies and techniques, human resource,
research and innovation, assessment and evaluation, inclusion to name a few.
Therefore, the theme of this edited book was chosen with an aim to re-orient the stakeholders towards
the contemporary issues of higher education through the chapters contributed by the academicians
across various disciplines of tertiary education. The book consists of twenty one chapters covering a
