What should be The Future of Education?
“Education in the world was designed to educate the adults it needed to pre-adapt children for the new world- a world of repetitive indoor toil, smoke, noise, machines, crowded living conditions, collective discipline, a world in which time was to be regulated not by the cycle of sun and moon, but by the factory whistle and the clock" - Alvin Toffler – “The future shock"
It had brought great success, to transform the industrial revolution in the world; many countries have achieved great economic success for the people and the country, countries that have transformed their education system have become to be known as developed countries and superpowers.
The industrial classrooms are no longer fit for the purpose, In the future; work will be structured around projects, not on processes. Information is now widely available, and we see that students are taking an increasing amount of ownership and guiding their own learning, with the teacher providing mentorship along. Therefore the need in the education system is to help the students with skills to help manage the formidable tools at our disposal, to know how to interpret and search results, critically assess the quality and veracity of information, and make ethical judgments about how to use it, and we will need to think creatively to come up with solutions to increasingly solve complex global problems.
Therefore we must impart knowledge to the students that must emphasize skills such as communication, creativity, and critical thinking, to better prepare students to apply the knowledge in the 21st – century workplace.
The book brings out the methods for the implementation for the future of education. It is also important that we impart quality knowledge to all, in urban and rural remote areas, through the use of technology and change the structure of the conventional classroom education system. The book fosters the idea of Blended Learning Schools and Core Learning Schools in the Communities and opens up the facilities for student’s learning, from the surrounding area of schools. This helps in accessing the infrastructure facilities to a wide range of schools, reach students in remote locations delivering the same standards and quality of education at a much lower cost to the Governments, and Private schools. The infrastructure is shared by the nearby surrounding schools, then investing in the infrastructure in every school, like Playgrounds, Library, Labs, etc, which is duplicating infrastructure in schools and also investing disproportionately, depending on the different schools in Cities, Rural, Community schools, Boards, etc. The opportunity of learning of the students is also unequal.
The future is also about teaching at scale; the book gives directions on implementation with the use of emerging new technology, tools for 3D models and visualizations. The Governments must facilitate the implementation of high-speed 5G & broadband fiber connectivity, availability of Computers, and learning tools, easily accessible to all students. We must ensure to make them work at scale in the classroom or lecture theater to reach the students in rural and remote locations with the same quality education that a private city school delivers.
