Sarat Chandra Mahapatra is a former Professor of Electrical Engineering, University College of Engineering (UCE), Burla, which was affiliated to Sambalpur University (currently UCE, Burla is known as Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Odisha). He has served the Department of Electrical Engineering at UCE, Burla, from the year 1959, when he joined as a lecturer, till 1994, when he retired as a Professor. Dr Mahapatra completed B.Sc. (Engg) in Electrical Engineering in 1958 and M.Sc. (Engg) in Electrical Machine Design in 1964, both from Banaras Hindu University (currently, IIT-BHU). He obtained his doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from Sambalpur University in 1974. He has supervised one PhD thesis in Electrical Engineering and published papers on starting of single-phase induction motors with a single stator winding. At UCE, Burla, Dr Mahapatra has taught a number of undergraduate level courses like Theory of Electrical Machines, Electrical Machine Design, Field Theory, Basic Electrical Engineering, Linear Control Systems; and postgraduate level courses like Synchronous Machines. As a UGC Fellow, he has taught courses like Network Analysis and Control Systems to first semester postgraduate students of Electronic Sciences at Berhampur University, Odisha. He is the author of the first and second editions of the book titled, “Principles of Electromagnetics”. The first edition was published by Tata McGraw-Hill Education Pvt. Ltd. in 2011 and the second edition was published by McGraw-Hill Education (India) Pvt. Ltd. in 2015.
