Description

"That Poetry herself lended me a notepad
And a pencil sharpened enough
To write a lifetime of my very own verse.
Gave me a home inside mine
And a room so filled with metaphor
That solace itself found solace,
Tucked beside the barren bedside,
Under the pillowcovers
Of oh so poignant poetry."
- Shourya Shrivastava"

"The Gentles of Dark" is an anthology of 56 poems spotlighting various themes and forms such as introspective poetry, cathartic poetry, emotive verse, nature-appreciation, societal awakening and many more. It has been intricately curated to serve diversity yet relatability to each reader. Each turn of page is sure to touch you deep within and set a contemplative, wistful smile on your face, and you'll not regret!

"The Gentles of Dark is a starkly insightful and extremely well-written exploration of pain, loss, fear and longing. It's real, raw and deeply moving. Worth your time."
- Pallavi Dandamudi, blog owner, "The Gal Who Rants", Berkeley

"Shourya's poems are like birds on a flight, impulsive and limitless at the same time."
- Ananya Mukherjee, author of "Tails from The Tail End", Singapore

"Visceral and dizzying."
- Himani Swami, author, Head, School of Health and Life Sciences at MDIS

"The poet's frankness is stunning. Simply searing."
- Nivedita Das, Educator, NPS, Singapore

"...opens conversation about contemporary manifestations of bullying, racism, depression and introspection."
- Anamika Roy Mitra, Educator, SPS

About the Author

Shourya introduces himself as "The Legendary Paper-Cut Survivor", which is rather believable observing his constant companionship with papers and pens.
He comes from Bhopal, “The City of Lakes", known for its rich culture, shayaris, theatre, music and food. Through the compelling power of poetry, he is brutally honest in his debut publication. Other equally searing collections of poems are on the verge of being published, where this 17-year old science enthusiast meets his artistic side and gives his voice to subjects of contemporary importance.
