Sowmya Ramkumar is a financial consultant in Bahrain. An ex-banker, she runs a popular Facebook group and blog called "1Across" (http://www.1Across.org/) for cruciverbalists.

She had compiled the book Cryptic Crossroads, featuring an exclusive set of crosswords in 2017, which was the first in this series and Cryptic Crossroads - Volume 2 in 2019.

Sowmya sets for The Hindu as "Hypatia" and her crosswords are published twice every month. She has set over 120 themed crosswords based on brand names for Catalyst, the brand supplement of "The Hindu Businessline". Her crosswords have also been published in Preston Pages in the UK.

When not setting crosswords, Sowmya loves to teach, read, travel as well as Crochet and has two Guinness Records in crocheting to her credit.
