The Reparation of Dreams is a story of four friends who grew up in the India of the 1980’s, a period fondly remembered as the ‘Doordarshan’ era, by a generation that sneaked in few hours of cable television in their teens. The generation came of age during the liberalization era when ideas of socialism versus capitalism were thrown away to the winds in the wake of the opening up of India’s economy. The wings though unclipped, still carried the weight of a pre-defined path, since a career beyond a professional degree was yet to be imagined. The story tracks the lives of Pooja, Prabs, Subhash and Anand from their teenage to their forties. These four friends, who came from different parts of India, met at different stages in their lives and found themselves united by a common vision or dream. What caused them to destroy their own dreams along with their friendship and how, gradually, they were drawn towards their dream like moths to a flame, forms the journey within the story. Education, especially, women's education and its impact on women's lives juxtaposed by the prevalent social norms, is a key theme of this book. The common dream shared by the four friends is also centered around this theme. The author intends to donate 100% of the earnings from this book towards the cause of education, specifically, girls' education.
