At the age of 20, the author came to London to work-come study. Due to his fascination for the German language, he went to the German part of Switzerland and had the opportunity to study at Berne University of Applied Sciences (BFH) Burgdorf, in Emmental, Canton Berne, where the famous cheese comes from. He graduated in Industrial Electronics and worked with multinationals BBC, SIEMENS, and SULZER. Later he founded his own company, IME for plant automation.

His work involved in many interesting projects: a computerised high-stack warehouse, where the First ZUSE German computer made its debut (1971); the first fully automated gondola cableway at Kandersteg, Berne (1971); a fully automated system replacing the water-driven Marzili cable car at the Houses of Parliament, Berne (1973); the First fully automated rope train, Iltios-Chaeserugg at Unterwasser, St Gallen (1974); the first distributed control system for a synthetic fuel plant (from coal) for SASOL in South Africa (1975–82). The author was lucky to have the opportunity to work on these interesting projects from Switzerland.
