Yes, you read it correctly. Quitting is winning if you want to reclaim your life from the smokey habits of tobacco.
I started my smoking journey in 1980. I gradually became a chain smoker and continued my smoking career until 2017 – for over 35 years. It began with my pals exchanging a single puff at first, and it progressively progressed through several stages of accomplishment, like
Hurrah – I have completed one whole cigarette.
At last, I could achieve a praiseworthy milestone: consumption of multiple cigarettes a day.
Wow, how quickly I could achieve the goal of finishing one pack of cigarettes in a single day.
And so on……
At my peak, I was consuming nearly three packs of cigarettes a day. I tried four or five times to give up smoking, but each time, I returned to the cloud of smoke. Once, I restarted smoking after a lapse of six months. It was instigated from a casual and apparently harmless thought – What is the harm in one cigarette? If I could live without smoking for six months, then smoking cannot recapture me. Alas, I was unaware of the iron-fisted stranglehold of cigarettes. Soon, I was on the loser's side of the game.
But I was not going to give up. After a protracted and challenging road, something changed in 2017. It wasn't a quick remedy or a miracle cure. I ultimately overcame smoking thanks to my unwavering resolve. I haven't had a puff since that day, and I can't even express how liberated I feel from that addiction.
I do not profess to be a smoking cessation guru or expert. I can't offer you a magic fix or a set of instructions. Instead, I can give my narrative, my hardships, and the mental hurdles I encountered on my path to liberation. This narrative comes from the life experience of a boy named Sid, who is inseparable from me. When I looked in the mirror, I could find Sid staring at me with his smiling face.
