This book explores the impact of SHG membership on women empowerment. If there is an improvement in the empowerment status and earning of the women members, it can be concluded that the women are benefitted by holding the SHG membership and they will aspire to join the groups. But there may be some unobserved and unmeasured attributes of the SHG membership status which affects the participation in SHGs. That is, there may be endogeneity problem associated with the participation variable and in that case the result would be misleading and erroneous. So, the endogeneity correction mechanism has been incorporated in this study. The study shows that rural women of the district will aspire to hold SHG membership as participation helps them come out as more empowered and with more income generating abilities. Rural women in terms of educational level, types of occupations, access to formal credit and agricultural land holding are more likely to participate in SHGs and there is no endogeneity problem associated with the SHG membership status in our empirical study.
