The book deals with use of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) in Non Acetaminophen induced Acute Liver Failure (NAI-ALF). NAC have beneficial effects on ALF from other causes (in addition to acetaminophen). Its use may be considered in non-transplant centers while awaiting referral or when transplantation is not an option. Significant improvement was seen in overall survival of patients treated with NAC. The use of NAC resulted in reduction of NAI-ALF mortality. Furthermore, use of NAC was safe and was associated with a shorter length of hospital stay.
